History Data:
The Department was founded in 1962. The founder of the
Department was Professor Petro Perfilov. Doctor of Medical
Sciences, Professor; A. Rudenko was the head of the department
since 1983 to 2006. A course of children’s neurology
was in structure of the department since 1996 to 1999. Doctor of
Medical Sciences, Professor Olena V. Tkachenko was elected
the head of the neurological Department since 2006.
Nowadays the neurological department of the Kyiv City Clinical
Hospital No. 12 is the clinical base of the Department of
Neurology. For holding an educational process there are 3 lecture
rooms, 6 rooms for holding practical classes and its own scientific
laboratory equipped with modern instrumentation for performance of
scientific research.
18 theses for the degree of a Candidate of Medical Sciences and
6 theses for the degree of a Doctor of Medical Sciences have been
defended during the existence of the Department. More than 30
doctors-neurologists have taken a residency course. About 6, 000
doctors-neurologists have studied and more than 400 doctors have
taken an intern course during the existence of the Department.
The Departmen of Neurology No. 2 of the P.L.Shupyk National
Medical Academy of Postgraduate Education is the basic one in
specialties: “Neurology” and “Children’s neurology”.
Teaching and Methodological Work:
The following training courses are held at the
Department:
Pre-certification: pre-certification courses in neurology;
Topical Advanced Training: “Actual questions of neurology”;
“Nervous system damage due to internal pathology”.
Internship: “Neurology”.
Clinical residencies and post-graduate education: Training of
clinical residents and postgraduate students is provided.
Scientific Research Activities:
Scientific research direction of the Department:

clinical and diagnostical features of cerebrovascular
pathology;
-
clinical and diagnostical features of pathology of peripheral
nervous system;
-
modern approaches to the study of problems of somatoneurology.
The planned scientific theme “Clinical picture and diagnosis of
paroxysmal conditions in diseases of nervous system is executed.
Also the theses for the degree of a Candidate of Medical Sciences
and the theses for the degree of a Doctor of Medical Sciences in
the direction of clinical and diagnostic features and medical
tactics in cerebrovascular pathology, cranial-cerebral traumas,
consequences of cranial-cerebral traumas, somatoneurological
diseases, lesions of peripheral nervous system.
Clinical work:
A significant medical and advisory work is performed at the
department.
The Assistants, post-graduate students and doctors who take the
residency course treat the patients of base departments, and
provide consultations for the patients of other clinical
departments.
Doctors who take the residency course and post-graduate students
are doctors on duty at hospitals.
The Head of the department and the Assistant Professors make
medical rounds, clinical analyses, give consultations for patients
of base departments and if necessary, other clinical
departments.
The teaching staff members give consultations for patients who
are directed from other medical establishments of Kyiv, regions of
Ukraine, and the Republic of Crimea.
The specialists of the department are on duty for rendering
emergency medical care on calls of regional centers of Ukraine.
Scientific-practical conferences are held by Professors and
Associate-Professors of the Department.
International activities:
The teaching staff members of the Department take part in
international congresses, symposia.
Training of clinical residents and postgraduate students from
foreign country is provided.
