History Data:

Nephrology department was founded in 1995. There are 7 persons in cast; chief of department, prof., assoc. prof., and technician. Annually 210-217 MD are studied. From 2011 department named as “Nephrology and renal replacement therapy”

There are 4 clinical subunits: nephrology department with RRT at Alexandrovskay hospital, nephrology department in Central Military hospital (40 beds) and Central regional Hospital, pediatric nephrology in City Pediatric clinical hospital.

Teaching and Methodological Activities:

The following courses are held at the Department:

specialization: the cycle of Nephrology (2,5 months), Pediatric Nephrology (2 months);

pre-certification: the cycle of Nephrology, Pediatric Nephrology;

topical advanced training: “Actual questions in Nephrology», «Diagnostic and treatment modalities in Nephrology», «Advanced in Nephrology», «Basic Nephrology“, “CKD in vasculitis and systemic diseases», «Actual questions in Pediatric Nephrology», «Diagnostic and treatment modalities in Pediatric Nephrology», «Advanced in Pediatric Nephrology“ (1 month)

The educational program is based on lectures, seminars, practical hours and references. The history illnesses, situation cases and specific tests are used in educational program. Special attention is pointed on anamnesis, differential diagnose, treatment modalities, practical approaches and mistakes.

Every week the specialist are listening for 9,6 hours of lectures, 9,4 hours seminars, 14,8 hours – practical lessons. Total hours in courses consists of 2,4 weeks of lectures, 2,3 weeks of seminars, 5,3 weeks of practical lessons in specialist courses.

At postspeciality advanced in Nephrology and Pediatric Nephrology specialist are 2 hours per week in lectures, 23,5 hours per week seminars, 9 houses per week in practical lessons. Total hours in that courses consists of 0,2 week of lectures, 2,7 weeks of seminars, 1,4 weeks of practical lessons.

At CO- speciality course the middle term for lectures is 11 hours, for seminars – 12,5 hours, practical lessons – 8,5 hours. So, total hours in that courses consists of 1,1 week of lectures , 1,25 week of seminars, 1,65 week of practical lessons.

The specialists are passed through special 2- level control tests, based on questioner of Nephrology department. First level is paper tests, 2-nd –computer tests. As final control practical approach and interview is performed by commission. All tests were proved by scientific com. of Med. Acad. of Post. Educ. and Ministry of Health.

The educational process is based on Ukrainian language as well as scientific articles and textbooks in nephrology.

REENA course were organized since 2006 (www.nephrology.kiev.ua).

Scientific work:

Scientific approach is based on acute and chronic renal diseases, CKD and renoprotection in pediatric and clinical nephrology.

Clinical work:

A significant medical and advisory work is performed at the departments with care above 1000 patients annually.
