Historical information:

From the moment of the foundation of the Kiev clinical institute the course of dermatovenereology was taught by Professor O.G. Lurje (1873-1953), the course of venereology was taught by Professor V.V. Borovskij.

The foundation of the self-reliant department of dermatovenereology (headed by Professor Lurje) took part on September 23, 1921 on an order №59 of Kiev Gubprofobrazovanie. Since 1929 there were two professors, some associate professors and assistants at the department and during 1930-1941 only one professor, one associate professor and one assistant remained.

In the post-war period (up to 1949) Professor O.G. Lurje was a Head of the department, and associate professors K.A. Karysheva and A.G. Sogolov, assistant T.V. Kravchenko were the department staff. In 1949, A.P. Lavrov (1865-1956) was appointed the Head of the department, and Professor O.G. Lurje took up a position of the Second professor.

From 1944 tо 1961 Professor K.A. Karysheva started to work on a position of associate professor, and than - on a position of Doctor of Medical Science. She lectured and carried out the practical lessons concerning a female and children's gonorrhoea. In that period L.E. Slutskij ( to 1945), A. Byhovskaja (1946-1949), A.G. Sogolov (1945-1950), T.V. Kravchenko(1956-1962), T.F. Zavarova (1950-1961), G.I. Popov (1956-1962), K.A.Seropjan (1960-1965) were the lecturers.

In 1953 as a result of Professor A.P. Lavrov moving to Odessa, Professor M.M. Kusnets, the author of chapters of the textbook on dermatovenerology , headed the department during the year (up to passage to the Kiev medical institute). Professors B.T. Gluhenkij and N.M. Levkovskij were his disciples.

The department was headed by Professor O.Y. Degtjar (1954-1957), by Professor K.A. Karysheva (1956-1957), by associate professor T.F. Zavarova (1957-1958), by Professor I.I.Pototskij (1958-1960), the disciple of Professor A.I. Kartamysheva, by Professor K.A. Kalantaevskaja (1960-1977).

In 1978 Professor B.T. Gluhenkij (the thesis for a doctor's degree "Materials on pathogenesis of eczema, clinical experimental researches ", 1974) had headed the department. At the same time Professor I.V.Schutskij (up to 1985), associate professors: c.m.s. G.I. Lastovetskaia, c.m.s. N.S. Kutsenko, c.m.s. L.D. Kaljuzhnaja, assistants: c.m.s. L.M. Kozij, c.m.s. U.Y. Bojko, c.m.s. S.A. Grando, c.m.s. E.I. Djachenko, c.m.s. V.S. Jagodka, c.m.s. T.M. Barabash, c.m.s. E.A. Vorobiova, c.m.s. T.P. Dovgaljuk were the department staff.

Scientific directions of the department activity are the study of immunodependent dermatoses pathogenesis, adrenal glands hormones role in pathogenesis of dermatoses, immunological status of patients, improvement of treatment methods of patients affected by a syphilis and a gonorrhoea. Under direction of Professor B.T. Gluhenkij 1 doctor's and 11 master's theses had been executed.

At the end of 70s – in the middle of 80s the reorganization had been started at the department. It was connected with the formation of children's dermatovenereology department headed by Professor I.V.Schutskij. The senior research scientist , c.m.s V.M. Pazchenko, assistants: c.m.s A.I. Zhupan, c.m.s. A.P. Scherbakov, c.m.s. T.I. Dovgaljuk, c.m.s. E.I. Djachenko, c.m.s. V.S.Jagodka and the senior research scientist, c.m.s. D.V. Kolotylo had become its lecturers.

The main direction of children's dermatovenereology department activity were the study of pathogenesis and pathogenetic therapy of children allergic dermatoses, radioisotope and morphological diagnostics of antibody Е, morphological diagnostics of lichen ruber planus, diagnostics and treatment of a congenital syphilis.

In 1983 children's dermatovenereology department was united with dermatovenereology department again, and in 1986 it was restored and headed by associate professor L.D. Kaljuzhnaja. At that time associate professor B.I. Djachenko, assistants: c.m.s. V.S. Jagodka, c.m.s. E.A. Vorobiova, c.m.s. V.P. Stychinskaya, c.m.s. O.V. Snitsarenko, c.m.s. L.A. Derevjanko were the department staff.

In 1993 the association of children's dermatovenereology department and dermatovenereology department took place. Professor L.D. Kaljuzhnaja (the thesis for a doctor's degree "Clinical immunological explanation of non-specific immunocorrection of atopic dermatitis", 1990), the disciple of Professor K.A. Kalantaevskaja, became the Head of the department. B.T. Gluhenkij continued to hold a position of professor, and G.I. Lastovetskaja, N.S.Kutsenro, U.Y. Bojko, L.A. Derevjanko were the associate professors, and from 1993 J.V. Koroleva, D.V. Kolotylo, A.V. Gavriljuk were appointed as assistants.

From the moment of Institute foundation the dermatovenereology course teaching were realized during 75 years (up to 1993) on the base of City skin-venereologic clinic. According to the order of Ministry of Health № 466 from 27.04.1944 the Kiev research skin-venereologic institute was assigned as clinical base of Institute of doctor improvement. It incorporated the hospital of 150 patient places, serological, clinical, pathohistological, biochemical, mycological laboratories and a skin-venereologic clinic on 200-300 visitings per day. Besides the training was carried out on the basis of the Regional skin-venereologic clinic and institute of medical cosmetics. Children's dermatovenereology department was situated on the clinical base of children skin-venereologic hospital of 100 patient places.

In 1992 the department was moved in Sity skin-venereologic hospital of 300 patient places and diagnostical consultative clinic on 50 visitings per day. The hospital structure incorporates modern equipped clinical divisions, physiotherapy and balneological divisions and clinical, immunological, serological, pathohistological laboratories. From 1993 City skin-venereologic clinic does not represent the clinical base of the department as a result of placement transfer to financial structures.

In 1996 Inter-district skin-venereologic clinic №4 of Kiev (48, Ostrovskogo str.) had become the clinical base of the department. This clinic is appropriated for 250 visitings per day and incorporates the day hospital of 40 places for patient affected by skin-venerologic diseases.

The position of the Head of National Medical Academy of postgraduate education (NMAPE) named by P.L.Shupik dermatovenereology department was held by the following persons:

1.                   Professor, the honored worker of a science, O.G. Lurje (1921-1949).

2.                   Professor A.P. Lavrov (1949-1952).

3.                   Professor M.M. Kuznets (1953-1954).

4.                   Professor A.Y. Degtjar (1954-1956).

5.                   Professor K.A. Karysheva (1956-1957).

6.                   Associate professor T.F. Zavarova (1957-1958).

7.                   Professor I.I. Pototskij (1958-1960).

8.                   Professor K.A. Kalantaevskaja (1960-1977).

9.                   Professor B.T. Gluhenkij (1978-1993).

10.                Professor, Doctor of Medical Science, Honoured worker of science and technology L.D. Kaljuzhnaja (from 1993).

The department is the certificated base of Pharmacological centre of Ukrainian Ministry of Health medical products clinical approbation. The department staff accepts an active participation in work of republican and international congresses and symposiums.

The NMAPE dermatovenereology department staff carries out the medical and advisory activity in the divisions of City clinical skin-venereologic hospital and skin-venereologic clinic №4. Professor L.D. Kaljuzhnaja advises the patients in «ОHМАDIT» clinic, in medical administration at the State affairs at the President of Ukraine, hospital of medical service of Security Service of Ukraine, the central Military hospital of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence. Professor L.D. Kaljuzhnaja is a member of the commission on communication of skin diseases with consequences of failure on Chernobyl atomic electrical station (CAES). The department staff accepts an active participation in carrying out of scientifically-practical conferences, lectures for doctors according to the program of "school children's dermatologist ".

Educational methodical activities:

The following courses are carried out at the department:

The courses of specialization: according to dermatovenereology and children's dermatovenereology specialities.

The before attestation courses: according to dermatovenereology and children's dermatovenereology specialities.

The course of thematic improvement: “The modern diagnostics and treatment of skin and venereal illnesses “.

 

The course of interns: interns - an adjacent specialities - family medicine.

From 1.09.2008 the 1,5- yearly internship training of dermatovenereology should be restored.

The training of clinical resident doctors and postgraduate students: clinical postgraduate students, postgraduate students, masters, including the foreign citizens, are trained at the department.

The course “Cosmetology in practice of dermatovenereologist “ are lectured for dermatovenereologist at the department on a self-supporting basis.

The following test computer programmes were designed at the department:

1.       The before attestation course according to speciality “Children's dermatovenereology“.

2.       The before attestation course according to speciality “Dermatovenereology“ appropriated for the second, the first and the highest qualifying categories.

3.       The courses of specialization according to children's dermatovenereology, dermatovenereology and internship training of dermatovenereology.

The programmes on cosmetology for professional skill improvement of dermatovenereologists were prepared.

The methodical materials of lectures, seminar and practical lessons, the test control are prepared for all courses carried out at the department. Technical means of training are constantly updated, new computers, multiprojectors, a digital camera, a videocamera and the videorecorder are got.

Scientific activity:

Now the department staff carries out the clinic testing of pharmacological preparations of domestic and foreign manufacture according to the decision of Pharmacological centre of Ukrainian Ministry of Health. The thesis works (3 doctor's and 10 candidate works) are planned and executed at the department.

Two scientific and research works are approved and executed. There are:

“The age-related aspects of diagnostics, clinical course and treatment of chronic dermatoses ".

“The clinical epidemiological characteristic and standardization of diagnostics and treatment of the infections transferred as a result of sexual contact ".

 

The department staff takes part in drawing up of standards concerning the diagnostics and treatment of skin diseases and the infections transferred as a result of sexual contact.

 

The articles about the work according to noted directions were printed in magazines "Dermatology and venereology", "The Ukrainian magazine of dermatology, venereology and cosmetology", "Dermatovenereology and cosmetology", "The Ukrainian medical magazine", "Les nowelles esthetiques (Ukraine)", "Reproductive health of the woman", "Physiological magazine", "The Bulletin of pharmacology and pharmacy".

The department had been published methodical recommendations: "Diagnostics and therapy of atopical dermatitis" (Kiev, 2002), "Serofast syphilis: diagnostics, treatment, preventive maintenance" (Kharkov, 2002), "Treatment vulgar acne" (Kiev, 2002), standards of diagnostics and therapy the scientifically-methodical textbook of "Disease of hair" (Kiev, 2004), "The main aspects of etiopathogenesis, clinics and treatments rosacea" (Kiev, 2005), "Optimization of preventive maintenance, diagnostics and treatment of an early congenital syphilis" (Kiev, 2006), "New approaches to therapy and the control of atopical dermatitis" (Kiev, 2006), "Eczema, caused varicose illness: etiopathogenesis, diagnostics and treatment" (Kiev, 2007), "Recommendations on conducting the documentation in cosmetological institutions" (Kiev, 2008).

In 2007 Professor Lydia D. Kaljuzhnaja has published the manual "Face skin illnesses, a mucous membrane of a mouth and red precipitation around of lips" which has been approved by the Central methodical cabinet of the high medical education of Ukrainian Ministry of Health.

For last years the department staff had organized and carried out the following scientifically-practical conferences: "Toxicoderma and allergic diseases of a skin" (March, 26-27, 2002, Kiev), "Diseases and age-related features of a skin, their genetic determinancy" (March, 18-19, 2003, Kiev), "The age and a skin" (2004, Kiev), "Skin and internal illnesses, dermatological syndromes" (February, 24-25, 2005, Kiev), "Development results of the young scientists dermatovenereologists" (April, 7, 2005, Kiev), "Dermatovenereology, problems of family doctor" (March, 30-31, 2006, Kiev), "Development results of the young scientists dermatovenereologists"(December, 7-8, 2006, Kiev), "Modern management in dermatovenereology: diagnostic, medical, organizational and legal aspects" (March, 29-30, 2007, Kiev), "Dermatocosmetology in a medical practice" (April, 18, 2007, Kiev), "Development results of young scientists dermatovenereologists of postgraduate education" (October, 14, 2007, Kiev), "Diseases of a face skin, pilary parts of a head and dermatoses, connected with a mucous membrane damage" (March, 20-21, 2008, Kiev).

Medical activity:

The NMAPE dermatovenereology department staff carries out the medical and advisory activity in the divisions of City clinical skin-venereologic hospital and skin-venereologic clinic №4. Professor L.D. Kaljuzhnaja advises the patients in «ОHМАDIT» clinic, in medical administration at the State affairs at the President of Ukraine, hospital of medical service of security service of Ukraine, the central Military hospital of the Ukrainian Ministry of Defence. International activity:

The international cooperation of the department staff is carried out in the following directions: approbation of medicinal substances registered by Pharmacological centre of Ukrainian Ministry of Health. The department staff took part and accept active participation in work of the international symposiums concerning actual questions of dermatovenereology, realises the international multicentral clinical tests of medicinal substances according to GCP requirements.

The department staff takes part in the program the Ukrainian Ministry of Health "Estimation of regional inspection of the diseases transferred as a result of sexual contact (DTSC), and advocacy of the policy recommended by the Ukrainian Ministry of Health, development of exemplary practice of DTSC ".
