History Data:
The department was founded in 1992 on the clinical basis of Cardiovascular Surgery Institute of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine. The Director of this institute professor G. V. Knyshow is the head of the Department since 1992. The following scientists were working at the Department: I.V. Vyhovaniuk (1992-1997), Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor; V.O. Gontarenko (1992-1998), Candidate of Medical Sciences, Associate Professor; S.M. Furkalo (1997-2001), Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor; V.F. Onyshchenko (1999-2001), Candidate of Medical Sciences, assistant.
Teaching and Methodological Work:
The following courses are held in the department:
Specialization: in Heart and Main Vessels Surgery
Pre-certification: in Heart and Main Vessels Surgery
Topical Advanced: "Congenital heart disease"; "Acquired heart disease"; “Ischemia"; "Therapeutic aspects of cardiosurgery ";
Internship.
Clinical residencies and post-graduate education.
Scientific Research Activities:
The scientific theme of the department:
1. Diagnosis and surgical treatment of heart tumours.
2. Electrophysiological and hemodynamic aspects of hypertrophic cardiomyopathy. Resynchronising therapy of cardiac insufficiency.
Clinical work:
The department staff makes the clinical work on the basis of the Institute of Cardiovascular Surgery.
International activities:
There have been concluded different agreements with leading cardiovascular clinics of Poland, Germany, France, and USA as for cooperation and experience exchange.
