History Data:
The Department of Oncology was organized in 1932. During its history, the heads of the Department were: Professor Bykhovsky G.V. (1932-1936), Assistant Professor Slonim I. (1935-1941, 1947-1952), Professor Novyts’kyi S.Т. (1945-1947), Professor Shevchenko I.Т. (1952-1959 1971-1976), Professor Dedkov I.P. (1959-1971, 1976-1984), Professor Myasoyedov D.V. (1984-2008) and since 2008 the Department has been headed by Professor S.D. Myasoyedov.
The educational base of Oncology Department were: the Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology (1932-1936), the Kyiv City Oncology Dispensary (1936-1941, 1945-1976), the Kyiv Roentgen, Radiology and Oncology Institute (1976-1990), the Oncology Institute of the Ukrainian Academy of Medical Sciences (1990-2008), National institute of cancer (since 2008 and hitherto) and the Kyiv City Oncology Hospital (since 1990 and hitherto).
Teaching and Methodological Work:
The following courses are held at the department :
Specialization: Specialization in oncology, oncogynaecology, endoscopy, oncosurgery
Pre-certification: in endoscopy; oncogynaecology; oncosurgery; oncology;
Internship in oncology.
Clinical residencies and post-graduate education: in endoscopy, oncosurgery, oncogynaecology.
Scientific Research Activities:
Research on actual problems of combined and complex treatment of malignant tumors with the use of cryosurgery and plastic surgery.
Clinical work:
Surgical, combined and complex treatment of malignant tumors abdominal and thoracic cavity, pelvic cavity; plastic and reconstructive surgery of large intestine cancer, stomach, and mammary gland cancer.
International activities:
Participation in cooperative researches into pancreas cancer treatment with pharmaceutical firms of England (London), researches into mammary glands cancer treatment together with USA, Switzerland and Germany firms.
