History Data
Necessity of creation of the Department of Sports Medicine and Sanology at the Kyiv Institute of Advanced Training of doctors (since 1997 the P.L.Shupyk National Medical Academy of Post-Graduate Education) was presupposed by two reasons. On the one hand, there is a need for formation of the national base of preparation of sports doctors, on the other hand - the necessity of regular training of doctors, in connection with introduction of a new speciality "doctor-sanologist" in the nomenclature of specialities of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine (1991).
The Department was established on September, 1, 1992. This medical Department of valeological profile is the first in Ukraine and in the countries of the CIS to conduct training of doctors with specialization and to make out an appropriate certificate. The Department trains experts in sports medicine and sanology (medical valeology), and also conducts pre-certification courses and courses of topical advanced training on subjects: “Children’s sanology”, “Psychovaleology”, ”Some issues of sports medicine”. Gennadiy Apanasenko is the founder of the Department.
Teaching and Methodological Work:
The following courses are conducted at the Department:
Specialization: Sports Medicine, Sanology
Pre-certification: Sports Medicine, Sanology
Topical Advanced Training: “Children’s Sanology”, “Psychovaleology”, “Means of restoration and stimulations of s efficiency of sportsmen”; ”Selected issues in sanology”, “Morbid and premorbid conditions in sportsmen”.
On the chair conduct preparation of clinical interns and post-graduate students.
Training on self-supporting bases on all cycles is possible.
Scientific Research Activities:
In 1999, the scheduled research work on a theme: “Valeology as a science” was completed. In 2001, the scheduled research work on a theme: “Development of criteria of medical valeology as a scientific discipline and definition of its place in the system of medical knowledge and practical health protection” was completed. Now the research work on a theme: “Quality of life and individual health” is being carried out.
The Department is the basic one on the speciality “Sports medicine” and “Sanology”. In the system of postgraduate education, the Problem Commission of the Ministry of Public Health and the Academy of Medical Sciences of Ukraine on a speciality “sanology and valeology” was created. Professor G.Apanasenko is the president of this commission.
Professor G.Apanasenko is a member of the editorial boards of some Ukrainian and Russian scientific medical journals:
“Asklepion” “Valeology”, “Physiotherapy exercises and Sports Medicine” (Russia), “Medical Universe”, “Valeology” (Ukraine).
Clinical work:
Teachers of the Department conduct medical-advisory work on clinical bases of the Department - the Ukrainian and Kyiv Centres of Sports Medicine; besides, in the Ukrainian Centre of Health (since 1997 – the department of the Institute of Public Health), the Road Clinical Hospital No. 1 (Kyiv), the Diagnostic Clinic “Neutron” (Kyiv).
Professor G.Apanasenko is included to the commission of experts on definition of health and the admission of sportsmen to participate in trainings and competitions.
Professor G. Apanasenko and Assistant Professor M. Morozov are the members of Medical Board of the National Olympic Committee of Ukraine.
Professor L. Popova conducts advisory reception on issues of the psychological help to sportsmen and other categories of patients.
Assistant Professors L. Volgina and M. Morozov, and also Assistant Yu. Bushuyev conduct consultation on questions of sports medicine and sanology.
Assistant N. Chebanenko conducts consultation on questions of sanology.
Since 1992, a specialized laboratory of vertebroneurology on the basis of the Kyiv City Medical-Sports Clinic (nowadays – Kyiv Centre of Sports Medicine) was opened, Assistant Professor M. Morozov is the head of it.
