History Data:
Postgraduate training of physicians and pharmaceutists includes outlook developing, deontological and theoretical parts, which were taught at the Philosophy Department throughout the entire history of KMAPGE. The department was the only form of humanitarian teaching and education of physicians, postgraduates, interns for many years in KMAPE.
In the pre-war period and during the first year after the war, the lectures and seminars on this theme were held by Professors and Assistant Professors from Kyiv leading educational institutions (for example, by Assistant Professor Vievskyy, Professor S.S. Gurvich).
The Department of Marxism-Leninism was founded in 1948. There were 3 lecturers at the Department headed by A.M. Okun (M.A. Ginzburg began working there since 1946). The Department was headed by Assistant Professor V.U. Bryk from 1952.
In the second part of the 1960-ties, the Department was transformed into the course of philosophical problems in medicine and biology headed by Assistant Professor, Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, O.O. Davydenko (since 1968).
Since March 1988, the course has been headed by Candidate of Philosophical Sciences, Assistant Professor V.L. Kulinichenko (physician by education), who became the head of the newly-made Department of Marxism-Leninism (since 1993 – the course in philosophy). During different periods of its existence, there had been working Assistant Professor V.L. Kulinichenko, Professor M.I. Myhalchenko, Assistant Professor B.T. Tytarenko, senior lecturers of the Department O.Yu. Merezhynska, A.M. Hirnyk, N.V. Kovalenko. In March 1999, the Department of Humanitarian Disciplines, comprising the philosophy course and the Department of Foreign Languages, was founded in the Academy. It was headed by Assistant Professor V.L.Kulinichenko.
In 2OO5 the Department of Philosophy was founded, headed by Professor V.L. Kulinichenko. Professor V.L. Kulinichenko is the Head of the Ethical Committee of NMAPE.
Throughout its history, the Department (the course) of Philosophy was based in different buildings of the Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians, the Scientific Research Institute of Traumatology and Orthopaedics. Now the Department is situated on the 8th floor of the teaching-laboratory building of KMAPGE. There are teaching-methodological classrooms, rooms, auditoriums for teaching staff members. The lectures are as well held in all KMAPE teaching-laboratory buildings.

Past, present and the strategies of the future”; “Deontological and humanitarian aspects of physician’s activity”; “Methodology and logic of physician’s clinical activity”; ”Basic trends of the modern psychosomatic medicine “.
Topical Advanced Training: “Deontological and humanitarian aspects of physician’s activity”; “Methodology and logic of physician’s clinical activity”; ”Basic trends of the modern psychosomatic medicine”; “Spiritual aspects of practical physician’s activity”.
Internship: “Methodology and logic of physician’s clinical activity”; ”Basic trends of the modern psychosomatic medicine”; “History of Ukrainian nation and culture. Past, present and the strategies of the future”.
Post-graduates: “Philosophical anthropology and medicine”; “Bioethics as modern medical ethics”; “Methodology and logic of the scientific researches”; “Ethical examination of the biological and medical researches”; “ Ethics of the biological and medical researches”.
Master’s course: “ Philosophical aspects of medicine”; ”Basic trends of the modern psychosomatic medicine”; “History of Ukrainian nation and culture. Past, present and the strategies of the future”.
Clinical residency: “Social-cultural and ethical-deontological aspects of physician’s clinical activity”; ”Basic trends of the modern psychosomatic medicine”;; “History of Ukrainian nation and culture. Past, present and the strategies of the future”.
Training courses on a self-financing basis and training of post-graduates are possible.
Scientific Research Activities:
The Department’s scientific activities are aimed at philosophical issues of medicine and biology realized in great number of scientific publications and reports at symposiums and conferences. 10 monographs were published during last 5 years by the members of the scientific staff.

Actual problems of Ukraine’s development, social life, health, social-psychological particularities of political processes in Ukraine, bioethical and valeological issues are investigated at the Department. A great attention is paid to the development of the system of postgraduate medical education.
International activities:
Over the last 10 years, some foreign professors have lectured at the Department:

- Dr. J. Hodges (The United Kingdom) – the lectures on bioethics;
- G. Lower (USA) – the lectures on Christian and scientific founding on bioethics
Barbara and John Wilkee /USA/ - the lectures on ethical aspects of reproductive technologies
Ukrainian professors M.I. Myhalchenko and V.L. Kulinichenko delivered lectures in Germany, Check Republic, Poland, Canada, etc.
