History Data:
The Department of Pathologic and Topographic Anatomy was established in 1990. Till 1990 there were two different departments.
The Department of Pathologic Anatomy was founded in 1992. It is based in the pathologoanatomic Department of the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital.
The Department of Pathologic Anatomy was headed consequently by Professors I.H. Titov, P.A. Kucherenko, V.V. Lauer. The department was plundered by fascist invaders and it was restored after the Great Patriotic war. During the post-war years, for nearly 30 years, the Department was headed by Professor M.K. Dal. Later, from 1973 till 1993, it was run by Professor A.P. Fedotov. Professors W.O. Maksymovych, V.L. Byalik and Assistant Professors I.M. Estrin, V.S. Vyatchenko, D.O. Zakusilo, Yu.B .Raskaley worked at the Department at different periods. Since 1992, Professor V.P. Silchenko has been the head of the Department.
During the period of the existence of the Department of Pathologic Anatomy, over 40 dissertations in the speciality “Pathologic anatomy” were defended under the supervision of the teaching staff members, 5 monographs and more than 500 scientific works were published. The department is a scientific-methodological centre in Ukraine in specialities “Pathologic Anatomy” and “Pediatric Pathologic Anatomy”. Curricula and Syllabi on all types of specialization, internships, pre-certification, topical advanced training courses on pathologic anatomy, pediatric pathologic anatomy were created. In 2000, a testing certification program ААS-2000 for doctors-pathologoanatomists and pediatric pathologoanatomists was reviewed and approved by the Min.
The department of Topographic anatomy was founded in 1945. Its premises are located in the central building of P.I.Shupyk KMAPHE.
The department was headed by Professor K.I. Chyslovsky since its foundation, and then by Professor M.N. Umovist.
Topographic anatomy is taught at a high educational and methodological level. The Department has at its disposal: 42 films, 520 tables, over 2, 000 slides. Doctors are trained in 17 different surgical specialties. 5 monographs, 5 educational manuals and about 500 scientific works dealing with current issues of topographic anatomy have been published. The teaching staff members received 8 copyright certificates.

The following courses are conducted at the department of pathologic anatomy:
Specialization: “Pathologic Anatomy”; “Pediatric pathologic anatomy”
Pre-certification: courses in “Pathologic Anatomy”, “Pediatric pathologic anatomy”
Topical Advanced Training: “Pathologic anatomy of obstetrical and gynecological diseases”; “Pathologic anatomy for trial histologists”; “Microscopic diagnosis of biopsies (specialty oncomorphology)”, “Pathlogic anatomy of infections diseases”, “Morbid anatomy for laboratory histologists”.
Internship: in “Pathologic Anatomy”
Clinical residencies and post-graduate education: The Department provides training of residents (including foreign ones), postgraduates according to a Curriculum approved by the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine.
Scientific Research Activities:
The Department maintains close cooperation with other departments of KMAPE on topics approved by the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine.
Clinical work:
The department carries out diagnostic and consultative work at base departments (the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital No. 1, the Kyiv City hospital No. 9, the Regional Oncological Dispensary), as well as other medical establishments of Kyiv, Kyivska oblast, medical institutions and pathologoanatomic offices of Ukraine.
