History Data:
The Department of Pediatrics No. 3 was founded in 1980. It was headed by: Zh.P. Gudzenko, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor; from 1980 till 1991 – G.M. Tebenchuk, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. Science September 1992, the Department has been headed by S.S. Kazak, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor. In 2002, the Department of Pediatrics No. 3 was renamed the Department of Children and Adolescent’s Diseases.
At different periods, the following scientists worked at the Department: Y.A. Bezrukov, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor; Leading Nephrologist of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine, Docotr of Medical Sciences, Professor I.V. Bagdasarova; Leading Hematologist of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine, Doctor of Medical Science, Professor V.M. Bebeshko; Doctor of Medical Sciences V.D. Drozdova; Director General of Children`s City Clinical Hospital No. 14 “OHMATDYT” N.G. Karina; Assistant Professors: N.K. Unich, V.V. Korniychuk, A.M. Sinchuk, N.A. Irodenko, S.S. Vovk, G.A. Kartysh; Assistants: G.I. Grygorets, A.M. Lytovchenko, O.A. Podorozhny, N.V.Alekseyenko, Ye.K. Kamenskaya, G.P. Mozgovaya, N.P. Glyadelova, E.V. Ribakova.
During the period of the Department’s functioning, 3, 265 doctors–pediatricians, pediatric gastroenterologists, children’s cardiorheumatologists and 479 internship doctors have been trained here.
35 clinical residents, 5 of them are foreigners, as well as 1 master, 3 post–graduate students and 1 doctoral candidate were trained at the Department.
Teaching and Methodological Work:
The following courses are held at the Department:
Specialization: specialization in Children’s Gastroenterology and Pediatrics;
Pre-certification: pre-certificate courses in Pediatrics; pre-certificate courses in Children’s Gastroenterology;
Topical Advanced Training: Pediatrics; Emergency medical Care in Pediatrics; Children’s Gastroenterology; Children’s Nephrology; Physiology and Pathology of Children of older age; Respiratory Diseases; Actual issues of pediatrics for doctors of urban hospitals; Actual issues of pediatrics for doctors of rural medical centers; Children’s Cardiorheumatology; Actual questions of pediatrics and adolescent’s medicine; Children and Adolescent’s Diseases; Children and Adolescent’s Cardiorheumatology;
Courses of initial specialization for doctor-internship in Pediatrics, General practice-family medicine.
For optimizing the teaching process, the staff members of the Department, the first ones at KMAPE, as early as the 80-es, created the database of control and teaching tests, situational tasks and diagnostic algorithms on different pediatrics aspects. The teaching staff members were ones of the first in Ukraine to create computer certification programs for doctors–pediatricians, doctors–interns, took part in the development of Certification Programs in Children’s Cardiorheumatology and Gastroenterology as well as Computer Program of Specialization in Pediatric Gastroenterology.
Every month the staff members of the Department deliver lectures for specialists with the purpose to improve their qualification at a continuously acting school of pediatric gastroenterologists of Kyiv.
Scientific Research Activities:
Within the period of the Department’s existence, important scientific and research work has been performed and is being carried out.
Integrated scientific direction of scientific investigations:
“Optimization and substantiation of in children’s gastroduodenal therapy in associated digestive pathology”
“Clinical-experimental substantiation of optimized cardioprotector therapy of newborn children’s hypoxic myocardial affections”
During the Department’s existence, 7 Candidate’s thesis and 2 Doctor’s thesis have been defended. Assistant Professor G.V. Beketova is a reserve of the Department.
Over 300 papers on fragments of scientific–research activity, 7 monographs have been published; 9 Copyright Certificates, 4 positive resolutions on invention, 43 rationalization propositions have been obtained, 4 educational text-editions and 4 reference books have been issued by the staff members of the Department. The teachers have participated in exhibitions at republican and international level for 3 times. More than 115 reports at Scientific Conferences, Republican and International Congresses have been made. 51 methods of diagnosing and treating children have been implemented. 11 methodological recommendations have been published.
In the Department, there are a lecture hall, 5 classrooms, a methodologist room, Professor’s office, and laboratory.
For providing teaching and learning work, the Department has 3 personal computers; connected to “Internet”, a tape-recorder, a model “Baby”, an overhead-projector, 2 flipcharts, a Xerox, an automatic classroom, 165 charts, 10 models, 600 slides on various topics, 50 diagrams, 51 graphs, a kit of ECG and roentgenographs are available in the Department.
Clinical work:
Children’s Hospital No. 9 of Podil district of Kyiv, comprising in-patient department for 200 hospital beds and 5 polyclinics are the clinical premises of the Department. On the base of Children’s Therapeutic Medical Association function: City Consultative and Diagnostic Gastroenterological Centre and the Centre of Prophylaxis and Treatment of the oral mucous cavity and parodentium of Kyiv Central Direction of Health Care.
Additional clinical premises: Multiprofile Kyiv Children’s Clinical Regional Hospital for 670 hospital beds; the Department of Nephrology of Children’s Clinical Hospital No. 7 for 40 beds; Children’s City Cardiorheumatologic Dispensary; Children’s polyclinics of the Therapeutic Medical Association of Golosievo and Dniprovsky districts of Kyiv.
The staff members of the Department perform important therapeutic and consultative activities on the central and supplementary clinical premises as well as in the polyclinic of the Security Service and the Ministry of Interior Affairs of Ukraine.
