Department of Children’s otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics

History Data:

The department of children’s otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics has originated from the course of children`s otorhinolaryngology since September, 1968, when the course was opened attached to the department of otorhinolaryngology (head of the department was prof. S.I.Mostovoy) of Kyiv Institute of advanced medical studies. The teachers of the course were associate-professor N.P.Manzhura and assistant A.A.Layko.

The independent department of children’s otorhinolaryngology was formed in January, 1969 and due to this fact children’s otorhinolaryngology became an independent discipline. The otorhinolaryngology department of children’s municipal specialized hospital № 14for 60 beds become the teaching one for the department. Professor Ye.A.Yevdoschenko was the first head and organizer of the department. Under her guidance (1967-1978) there were worked out some methods of treating (ASLTB), chronic cicatricial laryngostenosis, acute middle otitis and otoantritis, antritis and rhinogenic orbital complications, chronic otitis and otogenic intracranial complications. There were also introduced tonsillectomy and adenotomy under anaesthetic. The first teachers of the department were A.A.Layko, B.G.Iskiv, L.P.Chyrkova.

In May, 1975 the department was reorganized and become an associate-professor’s course the head of which was associate-professor A.A.Layko, follower of professor S.I.Mostovoy, and in 1990 the department received its independent status again. During the period the teachers of the department were L.P.Chyrkova, T.S.Mostova, A.L.Kossakovskyy, A.D.Momot, V.V.Synyachenko, Ye.D.Marchenko, Yu.A.Malochek.

Since 2002 professor A.L.Kossakovskyy, follower of professor Ye.A.Yevdoschenko, has headed the department. In May, 2005 the department was reorganized and become the department of children’s otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics.

The department has got three teaching institutions: otorhinolarygology department for 30 beds in (URCSH) “Ohmadyt” (Chornoval Str.,28/1) and otorhinolaringology department for 40 beds in CCH №1 of Kyiv (Bogatyrskaya Str.,30), the surdology and phoniatrics institution is situated in Institute otorhinolarygology AMS of Ukraine named after O.S.Kolomijchenko (Zoologichna str.,3).

Teaching and methodic work:

The series of specializations, general and subject improvement, advance testimonial series, internship and clinical studies are conducted at the department. More than 1700 doctors-students and about 130 internship students have been trained at the department. More than 30 children’s otolalyngologists were the students of clinical studies.

Internship “Children’s otorhinolarynglogy”

The training of clinical studies student is realized, the term of it are 2 years (1 place – for the citizens of Ukraine 2 place – for foreigners).

Scientific activity:

The main scientific topic of chair is elaboration and improvement the methods of diagnostic and treatment the diseases of upper respiratory ways and ear. It was elaborated more then 40 inventions and 200 propositions for rationalization. The members of chair have proposed original methods of diagnostic, conservative and surgical treatment of ENT – diseases, new instruments, wide used by pediatric otolaryngologist in Ukraine and foreign countries.

Collaborators of the chair publicized more then 500 scientific works, 4 of them – monographs, 1- manuals and more then 20 guide books.

On the chair ware made 3 dissertations Doctor of Medicine (A.A.Lajko, T.S.Mostova, A.L.Kossakovskyy) 5 dissertations Candidates of Medical science (L.P.Chyrkova, M.O.Melnik, V.V.Sinjachenko, Y.A.Molochek, O.Y.Bredun) and 3 dissertations are performing.

The department of children’s otorhinolaryngology, audiology and phoniatrics KMAPE is scientific and methodic center of children’s otorhinolaryngology in Ukraine.
