Department of Industrial Pharmacy

History Data:

For the first time in postgraduate training system of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine (MPH), in May 1997, under the application of the State Committee of medical and microbiological industry and agreement of MPH of Ukraine, the Department of Industrial Pharmacy was created.

The necessity of a creation of such a department is connected with the strategy of integration of Ukraine and, in particular, of the Ukrainian pharmaceutical association in the European Union (EU), which presuppses the realization of measures directed on harmonization of regulation, management and legislative base with the legislation of EU.

The organizer of the Department and its supervisor for already six years has been the Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, the Professor of the Department of Industrial Pharmacy, the General Director of the close corporation “Pharmaceutical firm “Darnytsia” ─ V.А. Zahoriy. Professor V.А Zahoriy is the leading expert in the field of industrial pharmacy, his scientific works include more than 130 scientific articles, 7 patents and copyright certificates, 5 monographs, 9 instructive-methodological recommendations and rules. Under his supervision educational plans and programs for different courses and for retraining of the pharmaceutical industry staff are developed.

Realization of educational process at the Department is carried out by the qualified teaching staff members, including: Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Е.Е. Borzunov, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences Y.V. Pidpruzhnykov, Candidate of Chemical Sciences, senior lecturer O.P. Baula, Candidate of Pharmaceutical Sciences, senior lecturer V.E. Butska.

The Department of Industrial Pharmacy functions according to the Regulations on the department, in directions of organization, improvement and retraining of the experts engaged in sphere of management, development, manufacture, quality control, biotechnology of medications.

Topical advanced training courses are carried out at the Department of Industrial Pharmacy according to three directions: “Industrial technology of medical means”, “Quality control of medical means of industrial manufacture”, “Industrial pharmacy”. The courses are supplied with the authorized educational programs and plans. Lectures, seminars and practical studies have the appropriate methodical developments.

The Department of Industrial Pharmacy has the enterprise CC “Pharmaceutical firm “Darnytsia” as its base.

During the existence of the department, 500 experts from 47 pharmaceutical enterprises of Ukraine passed their postgraduate training for the first time. About 100 experts have received their qualifying categories for the first time.

For the period of existence of the department, one Doctoral thesis was defended and topics of 2 Candidate’s theses were approved, which are carried out according to the plan. The members of the department published more than 70 scientific articles; 5 monographs and textbooks are published. The teaching staff members actively participate in creation of the normative-legislative base of the Ukraine’s pharmaceutical sector.

At the Department of Industrial Pharmacy, the “Centre for conducting works on standardization in the field of a medical industry” (CSMI) on a self-supporting basis under the joint order of the State Committee of Medical and Bio- industry and the MPH of Ukraine No. 39/57 as of 09.03.98 “On authorities of the organization in development and examination of the projects of normal-technical documentation of medical industry”.

During the existence of CSMI, the teaching staff of the Department and the Academy were involved in development and examination of drafts of standards for medications and their timely reconsideration, namely: temporary pharmacopoeia articles (TPA), pharmacopoeia articles (PA), technical specification (TS), branch standards (BS). Teaching staff members of the CSMI (experts) have raised their qualification at the appropriate topical courses of the department. During five years of the existence of CSMI, the conclusions on 755 items of the normal-technical documentation on medicinal means (laboratory, starting and industrial technological regulations, temporary and permanent technical regulations and other production of the branch) were given.

Teaching and Methodological Work:

The following courses are conducted at the department:

Topical Advanced training: “Quality control of medications of industrial manufacture”, “Industrial technology of medications”, “Industrial pharmacy”. The training at the department may also be conducted on the self-supporting basis.

Scientific Research Activities:

The research work “Scientific-practical development of aspects of the quality control system: manufacturing, control and realization of medical means according to the requirements of GMP at the pharmaceutical enterprise” under scientific supervision of Professor Zagoriy V.A.
