Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy

History Data:

The department was founded in the Ukrainian Institute of Advanced Training of pharmacists in 1938, which was included later into the structure of the Kyiv Institute of Advanced Training of Physicians. The purpose of the creation of the department was to improve professional skills of pharmacists in the field of quality control of medicinal products and it functioned as the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry. The first head of the department was a famous scientist, Doctor of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Professor Ya. A. Fialkov. In 1953, the Department of Pharmacognosy was joined to the department, which in 1956 functioned separately in the structure of the same institute, and since 1992, the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry was reorganized into the Department of Pharmaceutical Chemistry and Pharmacognosy.

Nowadays the Department is the leader in the Academy in questions of the problems of quality control and standardization of medicinal remedies, pharmaceutical drugs science, on training of the Authorized persons.

Teaching and Methodological Work:

The following courses are conducted at the Department:

Specialization: «Analytical-control pharmacy», «Common pharmacy»

Pre-certification : Pre-certification training for pharmacists – analyzers «Analytical-control pharmacy».

Advanced training (THAT): «Actual problems(on) of security of quality and warning of falsification of medicinal drugs», «New medicinal drugs of domestic and foreign production», «Scientific fundamentals and modern drugs of phytotherapy», «Fundamentals of homeopathy», «Phytodrugs in preventive maintenance and treatment of internal diseases», «Phytotherapeutic and homeopathic drugs», «Phytotherapeutic drugs and phytotherapy», «Spiritual aspects of practical activity of a doctor and pharmacist».

Training: «Analytical-control pharmacy», «Common pharmacy».

Internship: Internship for pharmacists on a speciality «Common pharmacy».

The department trains: post-graduate students on a speciality 15.00.02 - «Pharmaceutical chemistry and pharmacognosy», 15.00.01 - «A technology of medicines and organization of pharmaceutical matter»; mastrry on a speciality «Common pharmacy».

Scientific Research Activities:

Basic direction of scientific activities of the Department is “Scientific fundamentals of creation and quality control of medications”.

Pharmaceutical and pharmacotherapeutical research of medicinal drugs of a synthetic and natural origin, biologically active food supplements is carried out; the methods of analysis are developed, the elements of a system of security of their quality are justified.

Basic scientific production: normative-technical and analytical documentation (NTD, ANDES, THAT) on medicinal and therapeutic-preventive means, patents, methodological recommendations for practical medicine and pharmacy, pedagogical process, scientific and research-methodological publications, reports at international, national, regional and other scientific conferences, congresses.
