The first courses were conducted on the basis of the Kyiv Institute of Tuberculosis, lectures and seminars were given by famous scientists: Academician F.G.Yanovsky, Professor L.Ya.Epshtein. Since 1934, the course of lectures in phthisiology was given by the scientific supervisor of the Institute of Tuberculosis Professor N.S. Morozovsky, on whose initiative in 1935, the course of tuberculosis was reorganized into an independent Department of Tuberculosis that he had been heading for almost 20 years (till 1953).With the participation of research workers of the Department, not only training of physicians, but also a considerable work aimed at the creation of antitubercular service in Ukraine was carried out. In addition, a substantial scientific work on the problems of clinical presentation, diagnosis and therapy of tuberculosis was accomplished at the Department. In the next years such well-known scientists as Professor F.A. Myhailov, Professor I.P. Lerner, Professor M.M. Amosov, Professor G.G. Horovenko, and Professor I.M. Slipuha conducted their teaching there. Professor O.S.
