History Data
The Department was established in 1923. For the time of its existence, the Department was headed by Professor B.M. Mankovsky, Professor S.M. Sharavsky, Professor D.I. Panchenko. Since 1978 the Department has been headed by Macheret Y.L., Corresponding Member of the AMS of Ukraine, Professor, Doctor of Medical Sciences. The reflexotherapists training started in 1976 and presided by Professor Macheret for the first time in Ukraine.

Topical Advanced Training: “Actual problems on neurology”; “Infectious-inflammatory diseases and traumatic damages of the nervous system”; “Reflexotherapy for diseases of the nervous system“;
Internship: Neurology, Family Medicine;
Clinical residencies and post-graduate education: Training of clinical residents and postgraduate students is possible.
Scientific Research Activities:
The main scientific approaches of the Department are the following:

New approaches to diagnostics, treatment and rehabilitation of vascular and inflammatory diseases of the central and peripheral nervous system.

Consequences of craniocerebral traumas, elaboration of methods of treatment according to traditional methods of Oriental medicine, and also by means of laseropuncture and elecropuncture.

Methods of computer-based acupuncture diagnostics (by Nakatani, Akabane, Voll, auriculodiagnostics), 24-hour monitoring of a cardiac rhythm, conditions of vegetative nervous system and definition of variability of a cardiac rhythm (cardiorhytmography) are also introduced into practice.
The results of scientific research under direction of E.L. Macheret were described in more then 1450 published articles, 18 monographs including “Guide to Reflexotherapy” (1989), “Clinical pharmacotherapy of diseases in neurology and neurosurgery” (1993), “Base course of electro- and acupuncture” (1993), “Reference book for ambulatory neurologist” (1995), “Clinical-pharmacotherapy of neurological and neurosurgical diseases” (1996), “Practical neurology” (1997), “Radiation encephalopathy and non-traditional approaches to its treatment” (2000), “Electrical diagnostics and treatment in reflexotherapy” (2001), textbook “Neural diseases” for students of higher medical educational establishments” (2001), and also 33 certificates of authorship and patents.
8 Doctoral and 41 Candidate’s theses have been defended under scientific supervision of Correspondent Member of the AMS of Ukraine, Professor Y.L. Macheret, 30 postgraduate students and 48 clinical residents have been trained. More then 20,000 neurologists and 15,000 reflexotherapists, interns and Masters were trained here from Ukraine, former USSR and Poland, Germany, Finland, Czech republic, Slovenia, Hungary, Italy, Spain, Greek, Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Mongolia, Vietnam, Liven, China, Canada, USA.
Clinical work:
The employees of the Department carry out a large volume of medical practice in the basic departments of the Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital. Professor Y.L. Macheret and Assistant Professors of the Department carry out daily out-patient consultative neurological hours in the policlinic of Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital. Systematic attendance and emergency calls to regional hospitals of the Kyivska oblast are undertaken, as well as to other cities in accordance with the schedule of the sanitary aviation of the Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine.
International activities:
The Department maintains scientific relations with scientists from Germany, Spain, Poland, Italy, China, and Vietnam. Ukrainian association of acupuncture and laseropuncture, headed by Professor Y.L. Macheret, starting from May, 2002, has been acknowledged as a member of the World acupuncture organization "ICMART".
