History Data:

The Department of Pediatrics, Social and Forensic Psychiatry was founded in 1969 and its base is Kyiv Municipal Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital №1 named after I.P. Pavlov.

In 1999 in connection with the work of the head of the Department at Ukrainian Research Institute of Social, Forensic Psychiatry and Narcology, the following scientific research work was developed: “Investigation of peculiarities of the forming autoagressive behavior and development of complex pathogenic methods of its correction by using biological therapy”. Based on this development, a project “Programme of over-coming autoagressive behaviour, increased among the population of Ukraine”, was submitted to the Ministry of Health; this project had partially found its reflection in a Programme “Health of Ukraine”.

67 scientific papers, 4 monographs, 2 methodological recommendations have been published and 3 patents have been obtained by the members of the department during the last 5 years.

5 theses for a Doctor’s Degree have been obtained under the supervision of the head of the department.

The teaching staff members of the department carry out the educational activities, give multiple lectures on the radio, television and in the press on the topics concerning children and adolescent’s health problems.

Since 2001, the department has been holding the conferences for the school psychologists, teachers, educators and social activists in the city of Kyiv and its region.

Considerable part of educational and methodological meetings of pediatric psychiatrists of Kyiv is held at the department.

The main trends scientifically — an exploratory functioning of the department:

  1. Neuropsychological: lateral diagnosis and therapy, problems of functional lateralisation in mental disorders.

  2. Influence of environmental pollution on the mental health.

  3. Psychotherapy, methods of treatment in narcology (Prof. V.D. Mishyev).

  4. Forensic psychiatry (I.V. Kuznetsov, Assistant).

  5. Influence of individual peculiarities of enzyme metabolism on children’s mental health (I.A. Semenova, Assistant Professor).

  6. Phenotypic peculiarities in children’s mental disorders and investigation of individual approach in the process of their psychotherapy (O.O. Drevitska, Assistant Professor).

The head of the Department is the member of editorial boards in the following journals: “Forum of Psychiatry and Psychology”, “Archives of Psychiatry”, “Ukrainian Herald of Psychoneurology”, that are distributed in CIS countries. Following department working more than 700 publications was created. Such of than: “Clinical genetic in psychiatry” Bulachova L.O., Polischuk I.A.; “Manual of children neuropathologysts and psychiatrists”; “Lateral therapy” Chuprikov A.P., Linev A.M., Marcenkovsky I.A.; “Alcoholism and lateral injury of the brain” Chuprikov A.P., Svinarev C.N., Zaletok C.M. Following last two year in our department was created such works as: “Manual of modern depressive disorders“(Mishiev V.D., 2004), “Psychiatrics and behavioral disorders caused by the opioids using” (Mishiev V.D., 2005). “Autisms of Childs” (Chuprikov A.P., Vinnyk M.I., Bagriy A.T., 2005.) “Lefthanders world “ (Chuprikov A.P., Volkov E.O., 2005) and others.

The department of pediatric, social and forensic psychiatry invites for cooperation the medical universities, academies, institutes of psychiatric and psychological profile as well as scientists and manufacturers of psychopharmacological preparations.


Clinical work:

The department of pediatric, social and forensic psychiatry provides:

  • consultations for the patients from psychiatric in-patient departments of Kyiv municipal psychoneurological hospital №1, №2, №3 as well as at Municipal Centre “Mental Health of Children and Adolescents”, using additional methods of investigation

  • consultaions with delivering medical expert conclusions according to referrals of Kyiv municipal centre for Forensic-Psychiatric expertise

  • Consultations at Somatic Department of the city of Kyiv

  • Consultations for patients are provided both according to referrals of Medical Psychiatric establishments and direct referrals of patients and their relatives
