History Data: The Department of Child, Social and Forensic Psychiatry was founded in 1969 and its base is Kyiv Municipal Clinical Psychoneurological Hospital №1 named after I.P. Pavlov. The first head of department — prof. P.I. Kovalenko who held a position of the first deputy minister of public health services of Ukraine, directors of the Ukrainian research psychoneurological institute (Kharkov). Together with it senior lecturer O.M.Sagan (neuropathologist), assistants worked: V.М. Kuznetzov and S.M.Zinchenko (psychiatrists). In the further constantly doctors studding was conducted separately: on child psychiatry and on child neurology. In 1975 after death prof. P.I.Kovalenko the department has headed prof. L.O.Bulahova — follower V.P. Protopopov’s, J.A.Polischuk’s schools . She had dissertation for a doctor's degree as child psychiatrist (topic of one: "Clinical and pathophihsiological researches of phenylcetonuria"). The department by the time has replenished with new employees, — own pupils who had dissertations during clinical internship and postgraduate studding: V.J.Martynjuk (1979), I.О. Semenova (1987), T.V. Serdjuk (1989). These years studding base (clinics) were psychoneurological department of Kiev’s central child hospital, neurologic department of Clinical child hospital №1 where the Ukrainian rehabilitation center for children with organic brain disorders leaded by assistant prof. V.J. Martynjuk. In 1992 professor A.Chuprikov (director of Ukrainian Research Institute of social and forensic psychiatry in the same time, the Honored worker of a science and techniques of Ukraine, Doctor of medical sciences) has headed department. Prof. L.O.Bulahova has continued work in structure of department. In 1996 in connection with separation from department of child neurology the department has received the name as department of child, social and forensic psychiatry.
From 1999 till 2008 prof. A.P. Chuprikov had headed of department. In the same time he has headed Kiev’s city medical-diagnostic and science-methodical centre "Mental health of children and adolescents" at the Kiev’s city clinical psychoneurological hospital №1. The structure of the center included department of child, social and forensic psychiatry, 3 department for children and adolescents of hospital, department of medical psychology and psychocorrection of Interregional Management Academy, child psychiatry department of Ukrainian Research Institute of social, forensic psychiatry and narcology. From 2008 department has headed by prof.V.D. Psychotherapy 3. Narcology 4. Expertise in Forensic Psychiatry There are lectures, seminar and practical studding are take place for postgraduate students at department. They are participate in clinical analyses of thematic patients, detours and consultations. Department teaching staff is constantly update a methodical basis of studding process according to modern approaches in child and forensic psychiatry, psychotherapy and narcology. For last 10 years have been created on 2 variants of tests for the computer knowledge control for doctors on child and forensic psychiatry (are published in the Ukrainian language in 2008). It was specialization and pre-certification courses programs updated on these sections of psychiatry. Also it was prepared lectures and seminars due to principles modern psychophrmacology. Students are studding according to modern psychotherapeutic approaches (cognitive-behavioural, psychodynamic, existential, a Gestalt-psychotherapy) in the program of specialization and topical advanced training on psychotherapy. Scientific Activities: The main scientific subjects in department an initial stage was studying of a dominating pathology residual brain lack (affective psychoses in adolescents on background of residual brain lack), comparative studding of schizophrenia and an early child autism, disintegrative psychoses. Revival of psychogenetic in psychiatric clinic, diagnostic and treatment of hereditary illnesses connected with a name prof. L.O.Bulahova. In Ukraine, for the first time in the USSR, order of Health Ministry about screening and free treatment of phenilcethonuria is given out. The department scientific researches were carried out also in topic of mental development disorders at hereditary infringements of a metabolism. There were done dissertation works on studying of mental disorders at mucopolysugaridosis (Lizlova T.M.), of brain lack at the mild form of purinosis ( Semenova I.), of brain lack in children with hereditary infringements of an triptophan exchange and pathogenic treatment of it (Serdjuk T.) in the department. Many years the main theme of department scientific work was postgraduate studding of doctors and improvements of knowledge in the field of child psychiatry. According to order of Health Department of Ukraine the department was named as basic department on child and forensic psychiatry. From the beginning of 90th years the second direction of scientific activity became questions of forensic psychiatry. When prof. V.D. Mishiev was started to work at the department the psychotherapy and narcology has joined as activity directions. The department chief, prof. A.P. Chuprikov (scientific head of investigation) and prof. G.Ya. Pilyagina (leading researcher) participated in realization of research work “To develop complex pathogenetic methods of correction and prevention of self-destructive behaviour in mental patients using biological therapy, psychotherapy”. It was carried out in the Ukrainian Research Institute of social, forensic psychiatry and narcology (1998 - 2002). They took part in creation and introduction of the interdepartmental nation-wide program on suicide prevention in Ukraine (1999 - 2000). The prof. G.Ya. Pilyagina was scientific head of investigation “Creating of System of organization, diagnostic, medical-rehabilitation and prevention for violence victims with specialized psychiatric, psychotherapeutic and psychological help” (2004-2005), and now she is leading researcher of research work «Development of model of national suicide services (methodological and organizational principles, diagnostic, treatment, rehabilitation and prevention)» (2006 – 2009, Ukrainian Research Institute of social, forensic psychiatry and narcology). Thus, studying of age and pathogenetic aspects of self-destroying behaviour, complex methods (psychopharmacological and psychotherapeutic) of its correction now is one more direction in department scientific researches. From 2008 till 2010 investigation “Adjustment disorders at school age” was done well by stuff of department. From 2011 till now there is investigation “Differential estimation criteria of social functioning in mental patients frustration on the hospitalisation discharge stage” carrying on by stuff of department The main trends scientifically — an exploratory functioning of the department: 1. Child Adjustment Disorders (chief of department, prof. Mishyev V.D., prof. Pilyagina G.Ya., prof. Chuprikov A.P.) 2. Pathogenetic methods of treatment in narcology (prof. Mishyev V.D.)
6. Neuropsychological: lateral diagnosis and therapy, problems of functional lateralisation in mental disorders (chief of department, prof. Chuprikov A.P.) 7. Forensic psychiatry (assistant Kuznetsov I.V.). 8. Phenotypic aspects in children’s mental disorders and investigation of individual approach in the process of their psychotherapy (assistant prof. Drevitska O.O.). 9. Influence of individual peculiarities of enzyme metabolism on children’s mental health (assistant prof. Semenova I.A.). 6 dissertation for doctor of medicine habilitation degree had done with managing of prof. Chuprikov A.P. (they are L.O.Krizhanovska, A.A. Revenok. M.I. Vinnik, V.Ya. Pishel, O.A. Dvirsky, G.Ya. Pilyagina) and 1 dissertation for candidate of medicine degree. Both of professors V.D. Mishyev and G.Ya. Pilyagina are leading on 2 dissertation for candidate of medicine degree each of them. Following department working more than 700 publications was created. Department stuff is doing educational work: newspapers articles, interview by radio and TV about children and adolescents mental health protection. Since 2001 Department stuff has done conferences to school psychologists, teachers, tutors and social workers of Kiev city and area. Clinical work: To successful work of collective of department assisted close communication with base clinics: Kyiv municipal clinical psychoneurological №1 (chief of hospital head physician — chief of department, prof. V.D. Mishiev), Kyiv regional specialized psychiatric-narcological centre (Director — G.M. Zilberblat), Kyiv city psychoneurological hospital N2 (chief of hospital — V.A. Demchenko), Kiev municipal clinical emergency hospital (chief of hospital — A.A. Tkachenko). Department stuff consults about thousand patients (children and adolescents) per year. International Activities: Recognition of scientific achievements of department scientists is rewarding L.O. Bulahova (1970), and then and A.P. Chuprikov (1985) Protopopov’s premium. Professor A.P. Chuprikov also has reward a gold medal "For achievement in a science and technics" by International academy of personnel (2002), medal " Albert Schweitzer”s: For achievement in a science". A.P. Chuprikov is selected by full member New-York academy of science (1996), International academy of personnel (1998), International academy of ecology (2002), Bulgarian national academy of medicine (2004), European academy of natural sciences (2006).
