Scientific Activities

The department of Pediatrics - 2 carries out wide scientific-research work, which has various directions: implementation of modern methods of diagnosis and treatment of digestive organs pathology (immunological investigation, helicobacter investigation, dysbacteriosis, ultrasonography, fibrogastroduodinoscopy, colonoscopy, pH-metry, assessment of markers of A, B, C virus hepatitis and Torch-infections by using immuno-enzymetic method); diagnostic methods of improvement and substantiation of new approaches to rheumatoid arthritis management in children; diagnosis of morphofunctional peculiarities of cardiomyopathies according to heart ultra-sonography; up-to-date approaches to diagnosis and differential therapy of children’s vegetative dysfunction, including hypotension with cerebral hemodynamics assessment under rheography control and transcraneal Doppler-graphy.

Clinical investigations of functional condition of digestive system in children under conditions of elevated radioactivity as a result of the Chernobyl NPP disaster have been conducted and medicinal-prophylactic mixtures for correcting detected disorders have been developed.

Currently, the department is carrying out scheduled research on the subject: “Modern approach to osteoporosis diagnosis and treatment in children suffering from arthritis” using up-to-date methods of investigation including ultra-sound densimetry and multi-disciplinary investigations on studying relationship of osseous tissue structural-functional condition with pathology of child’s different organs and systems.

The development of new methods of prophylaxis and treatment of osteoporosis in children as well as approbation of modern multiprobiotics (simbiter, simbivit), antibiotics, antiarrhythmics, medicinal-prophylactic mixtures in infant’s dietetics (protein soy-bean hydrolysates, anti-reflux with pre- and probiotics; saturated with iron; non-lactic and hypolactic; acid-lactic ones) is being performed.

The head of the department Prof V.V. Berezhnoy is one of the authors of “Temporary standards of volumes of diagnostic investigations, therapeutic measures and quality criteria of children’s treatment” (in Ukrainian), the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, 1998 as well as “Temporary standards of rendering medical care for children’s population under conditions of ambulatory-polyclinical establishments”(in Ukrainian), the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, 2002.

If necessary the teaching staff members render consultations for children at the consultation polyclinic of the clinical base.

Material-technical base of the hospital meets modern requirements, surface standard for one patient makes up 7,5 m2. Optimal conditions for common mother and child’s stay have been created. About 13 thousand patients are treated at the hospital annually, over 3 thousand surgical interventions are performed. Over the last 5 years, lethality has made up 0,07–0,20%.
