History Data: Department of Surgery was organized in 1922, headed by well-known surgeon-oncologist Prof. G. B. Bykhovskiy (1861-1936). On the basis of the Kyiv Regional Hospital since 1937, led the Department of Surgery docent M.I. Kolomiychenko. Since 1941, the Department staff participated in the Second World War. In 1944, the Department of Surgery-2 was headed by Professor B.E.Pankratov. He organized in 1946, a comprehensive scientific expedition to the study of endemic goiter in the Transcarpathian region. At his suggestion in 1947 in Ukraine for the first time the scale of the Soviet Union was established by the factory production of iodized salt for "dumb" iodine prophylaxis among school and preschool children. Professor B.E.Pankratov first introduced in the USSR ampoule of blood transfusion and the first in Ukraine gas use endotracheal anesthesia. One of the first surgeons in Kiev, Professor B.E.Pankratov began to conduct operations at purulent-inflammatory diseases of the lung and pleura. 1953 - 1975rr. Department of Surgery-2 received the widest acceptance due to its leader, Professor I. I.Kalchenko (1904-1975 year). 1955, he was chief editor of "New Surgical Archives", which in 1962 was renamed "Clinical Surgery". Range of scientific and practical interests of Professor II Kalchenko was extremely broad - the original methods of treatment of injuries of peripheral nerves, the idea of economical resection of gastric ulcers piloroduodenalnoy and individual approach to the surgical treatment of gastroduodenal ulcers, original methods of operations for achalasia of the esophagus, the blockade of the extrahepatic bile ducts. 1975 - 1982 years, the department was headed by Professor P.V.Lys Since 1983, the department in charge of Prof. D.I. Krivitsky, who made a great contribution to the surgical treatment of thyroid diseases. From 1989 to 2010, the department was headed by prof. V.I.Mamchich In 2004, the Department has received the name of surgery and proctology. Since 2010, the department of surgery and proctology is headed by Professor Ya.P.Feleshtinsky.

Scientific activities: Scientific activity is devoted to developing new methods of diagnosis and treatment of surgical diseases of the abdominal cavity and the abdominal wall using the latest technologies. Feleshtinsky Ya.P. is the author of "abdominal hernia" and the textbook "Surgery". Prof. Mamchich VI is the author of two books (''Acute appendicitis''''Prevention and major abdominal surgical infection printsipylecheniya ") and co-authored the textbook" Surgery ". Over the past 5 years at the department published 247 scientific papers in professional journals, 26 in foreign journals, 48 abstracts, conducted two scientific conferences, 16 "master classes" in various regions of Ukraine. Clinical work: The department has four clinical sites. Clinical Hospital № 5, Kyiv, Department of Surgery (40 beds). Employees of the Department are consultative reception, take part in the urgent and routine surgical operations. BB DAC "Kyiv Regional Clinical Hospital," Department of Surgery (60 beds). Department staff conduct consultations in the clinic KOKB, participate in planned and emergency exits in the Kiev region.
