History Data: It was founded according to the decree of MH of the former USSR, (Ministry of Health) by the resolution of the scientific council of KSIATP and rector's order N° 71 of 17.03.1988. It was caused by the absence of the chairs for advanced training of emergency and first-aid physicians in Ukraine. The department began its activity in June, 28 in 1988. Kyiv city clinical emergency hospital and Central emergency a station in Kiev have been clinical bases since. Professor Ya.V. Goev (1988-1991) who was taught by Academician M.M. Amosov and Professor O.M. Avilova, famous for their unique operations on esophagus, trachea, and abdominal cavity was the first lead of the department. The first teachers are known to be associate Professor (later Professor) N.I. Tutchenko, a surgeon, Academician O.O. Shalimov's scholar (till 1997), associate Professor later Professor) I.S. Zozulia, a neurologist and a scholar of Professor G.I. Panchenko and Professor E.L. Macheret, Associate Professor V.K. Chudoshyn (till 2008), anesthesiologist of higher category, the scholar of Academician M.M. Amosov and Professor A.T. Treschinskyi, Associate Professor E.A. Buslo, a cardiologist (till 1952). From the very beginning the department has paid basic attention to emergency surgery thus the first two advanced subject series in 1988 focused on this direction. During the past two years emergency cardiology and neurology advanced thematic series were implemented. At the same time there was developed a united program for post-graduate training of emergency physician which was approved by MH of Ukraine in September in 1990. In 1988-1990 14 subject series for 387 emergency physicians were carried out in the department. In 1991 Professor I.S. Zozulia headed the department. Since then the department academic and scientific work based on practical medicine requirements and emergency aid in particular has changed greatly. To solve the questions a close connection of first-aid station and substation specialists who took part in discussing programs and academic curricula and organizing emergency work has been established. They were Head doctor of central first-aid station A.V. Vershygora, Head of substation N°ll P.F. Nabuchotnyi and other leading first-aid specialist of Kiev. Zozulia Ivan Savvovych is Ukraine State prize winner due to the development of the object "Initial and transit forms of deranged cerebral circulations. Development and implementation of new methods of prophylaxis, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitations in Ukraine", 1992. He is the academician of the Academy of Sciences of Higher Education, Honored Scientist and Technician of Ukraine, scientific editor of "Selected scientific works of the staff of NMAPE named after P.L.Shupyk", the journal "Acute emergency states in the practice of physians", editor-in-chief of "Ukrainian medical journal", editorial board member of a number of journals, member of the Presidium of Republic society of neuropathologists, psychiatrists and narcologists of Ukraine, since 1991 he has been working a prorector for scientific work of NMAPE named after P.L.Shupyk. He is awarded with a lot of Diplomas he is decorated with medals, order of Yaroslav Mudryi of the 54 degree. In 1992 the first pre-attestation series were conducted and training of the interns began. That very year there were taken on as assistants Candidate of medical science L.L. Polishchuk (a neurologist) till 2000, Candidate of Medical science T.I. Gandzha (a cardiologist), Candidate of Medical science O.V. Kurashov (a toxicologist) till 2000. Later they became associate professors of the department. Professor G.G. Roschin, doctors L.V. Rudenko, S.M. Nedashkivskyi, M.I. Znaievskyi worked part-time at the department. There were also taken on Candidate of medical science O.V. Ivanchenko (a surgeon, worked as assistant from 1997 till 1999). Professor V.I. Bobrova (1998), Doctor of Medical Science, professor B.I. Slonetskyi (1999), Candidate of Medical science, associate Professor V.V. Orel (2005), Candidate of Med. Sciences Yu. I. Markov (2007), Candidate of Med. Science M.V. Maksimenko (2011) and Candidate of Med. Science A.I. Zozulia. During this years there were developed and improved more than 20 programs and curricula of pre-attestation series, specialization, advanced subject series, probations, short-term series and programs for training interns specialized in Family Doctor, General Practice, Emergency Medicine. More than 5000 doctors of emergency and first-aid medicine underwent post-graduate training from Kyiv, Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr, Khmelnytsky, Cherkasy, Chernigiv regions. At the same time there were trained more than 200 interns. The department consists of high skilled specialists with long pedagogic service, medical and scientific experience who teach emergency and first-aid doctors on a high methodic and scientific level. Teaching and Methodological Activities: The following courses are held at the Department: specialization (3 months) — "Medicine of Emergency Conditions" Pre-certification (1 month) — "Medicine of Emergency Conditions" Topical Advanced Training – 1. "Actual questions of medicine of emergency states" (1 month) 2. "Emergency states in neurology" (0.5 month) 3. "Emergency states in toxicology" (0.5 month) 4. "Emergency cardiology" (0.5 month) 5. "Performing primary reanimation complex at the prehospital stage" (0.5 month) This’s Internship of the first and second year education. Scientific Activities: 1. with acute impaired The department staff published 762 scholarly works including 11 monographs, 3 text-books, 40 educational supplies. There were defended 3 doctoral dissertations (prof. I.S.Zozulia, prof. N.I.Tutchenko, B.I. Slonetskyi); 3 doctoral dissertations (V.V. Ganalskyi, N.M.Buchakchynska, K.M.Igrunova) and 15 candidate dissertations were defended under the supervision of prof. I.S.Zozulia at the department. 17 post-graduate students, 24 residents, including 7 foreign citizens, were trained at the department. Clinical work: The medical work is conducted according to the agreements between the department and base institutions. The department's clinical bases are as follows Kyiv municipal clinical hospital of emergency care, Kyiv municipal clinical children's hospital № 1, Central station of emergency care of Kyiv and its substation № 11 and Olexander municipal clinical hospital. The department staff performed about 3.5 thousand of operative, interventions, treated and advised 70 thousand of patients, fulfilled 64 air medical service visits. The department initiated 17 scientific for a (scientific and practical conferences, schools-seminars, symposia) including 2 congresses of doctors of emergency medical care and medicine of catastrophes. "All-Ukrainian Association of doctors of emergency care and medicine of catastrophes" was created at the congress of doctors of emergency care in 2005. Professor Zozulia I.S. was elected President, Honored doctor of Ukraine A.V.Vershygora was elected chairman of the council. The department of medicine of emergency states of NMAPE named after P.L.Shupyk is the supporting one among those which work on the programme "Medicine of emergency states".
