History Data:

The department was founded in 1979 at the Kiev State Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians in direct participation of Y.V.Kokhanevich. The significant role in the development of the department Honored Doctor of Ukraine, Professor Y.V.Kokhanevich, who after graduating from Vinnitsa Medical Institute in 1954 for 7 years worked as a distict obsetrician-gynecologist and head doctor of Dunaevetz distict hospital, Khmelnitskaya region. In 1964 she defended her thesis for the Degree of Candidate of Medical Science on the theme: " Cervicoscopy in the diagnosis of precancerous states and initial stages of cancer of uterine cervix". In 1963–1969 Y.V.Kokhanevich worked as a junior researcher, and in 1969–1979 – as a senior researcher of Kiev Institute of Roentgenradiology and Oncology. In 1972 she defended her thesis for the Degree of Doctor of Medical Science on the theme: "Light and fluorescent colpocervicoscopy, hystochemical and cytogenetic parallels in the diagnosis of precancerous states and cancer of uterine cervix". In 1980 she headed the department of obstetrics and gynecology №3 of Kiev State Institute for Advanced Training of Physicians. Y.V.Kokhanevich is an Honored Doctor of Ukraine, the Honored Inventor of the USSR, author of 292 scientific works, 11 inventions, 25 rationalization proposals. Under the guidance of Y.V. Kokhanevich 27 Candidate’s and 2 Doctor's Degrees have been defended.

From mach 2005 Vyacheslav V. Kaminskyy head of the department, Doctor of Medical Science, Professor, the thesis for the Candidate’s Degree "The course of pregnancy and labors in women who interrupted the first pregnancy by artificial abortion", the thesis for the Doctor's Degree "EPH-gestosis". Member of Specialized Academic Board of NМАPE for defending Candidate’s and Doctor's Degrees in specialty "Obstetrics, gynecology, anesthesiology". Author of 70 scientific works, 10 inventions. Coordinator of HIV-infection perinatal prevention programs at Ministry of Public Health of Ukraine.

Associate Professor S.V. Dudka. The thesis for the Candidate’s Degree "Diagnosis and treatment of insufficiency of uterine-placentary blood circulation in arterial hypertension in mother". Author of 45 scientific works, 1 invention.

Associate Professor I.A. Sudoma. The thesis for the Candidate’s Degree "Echography and hysteroscopy in the complex diagnosis and treatment of pathological states of endometrium and nonepithelial tumours of uterus" (1988). Is working on the thesis for the Doctor's Degree on the theme: "Pathogenetic variants of the disorders of fertility and methods of treatment of infertility in patients with adenomyosis and external-internal endometriosis". Author of 45 scientific works.

Associate Professor A.A. Sukhanova. The thesis for the Candidate’s Degree "Complex method of prophylaxis of purulent-septic complications after Cesarean section with the using of imosgent" (1993). Author of 60 scientific works. Is working on the thesis for the Doctor's Degree on the theme: "Aetiopathogenetic variants of cervical intraepithelial neoplasia, methods of diagnosis and treatment".

Associate Professor V.V. Konoplyanko. The thesis for the Candidate’s Degree "Pregnancy, labors and functional state of liver in patients with diabetes mellitus" (1993). Author of 27 scientific works.

Assistant V.D. Zukin. The thesis for the Candidate’s Degree "Clinical and genetic aspects of fragile Х-chromosome syndrome". Author of 8 scientific works.

Assistant E.N. Boris. The thesis for the Candidate’s Degree "Features of diagnosis, prophylaxis and treatment of postmenopausal osteoporosis in women of various age with natural and surgical menopause". Author of 17 scientific works.

Assistant Elena G. Yeschenko. The thesis for the Candidate’s Degree"Prophylaxis of HIV infection vertical transmission by rational management of pregnancy and labor in HIV-infected woman". Author of 8 scientific works.

Assistant Marina V. Zelenskaya. The thesis for the Candidate’s Degree"Forecasning and preventive maintenance hypogalactia at woman with late applying newborn to brests". Author of 5 scientific works.

Senior laboratory assistant V.V. Sumenko. Is working on the thesis for the Candidate's Degree on the theme: "Cytologic and cytogenetic diagnosis and prognosing of cervix epithelium malignization in pregnant women". Author of 83 scientific works.

Teaching and Methodological Activities:

The main activites of the department are directed to the postgraduate advanced training of doctors. The following educational courses have been conducted on the basis of the department for the period of its existence:

• Actual questions in obstetrics and gynecology;

• Operative obstetrics and gynecology;

• Urgent care in obstetrics and gynecology;

• Colposcopic diagnosis and methods of treatment of cervix pathology;

• Ultrasonic diagnosis in obstetrics and gynecology;

• Actual questions of human reproduction;

• Pre-certification training course.

Teachers of the department also carry out training of interns, clinical residents, both from Ukraine, and from other countries, such as Lebanon, Turkey, Congo, Mongolia, Ecuador, Syria, India.

Teachers of the department repeatedly conducted topical advanced training courses for practical doctors out of Kiev. In total 14 courses out of Kiev have been carried out, including those in Yalta, Krasnodar, Ashkhabad, Samarkand, Chardzhou, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatky, Nikolaev, Zhitomir, Ivano-Frankovsk, Ternopol, Uzhgorod, Sakhalin.

Scientific Activities:

Under the guidance of Professor V.V. Kaminskyy the development of new direction in obstetrics and gynecology on the improvement of methods of diagnosis and differentiated treatment of benign tumours, precancerous states, early forms of uterine cervix cancer is conducted. New classification of cervix pathology has been worked out, prognosis criteria have been determined. The influence of uterine cervix diseases on reproductive function, course of pregnancy and labors has been investigated. The work on studying such diseases, as stromal tumors of uterus, ovarian tumors, genital endometriosis: diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation of reproductive function is conducted.

Scientific work on features of the course of pregnancy, labors and puerperal period in pregnant women with sexually transmitted diseases is carried out. The method of HIV-infection vertical transmission prevention is elaborated.

Scientific achievements of the department are implemented in the public health care practice of medical establishments of Ukraine. 2 theses for a Doctor's Degree and 8 theses for a Candidate’s Degree are being performed at the department. For the period of the department’s activities 38 inventions, 42 rationalization proposals have been made out.

The major inventions developed on the base of the department are:

• Cervicoscope;

• The device for collecting biological material;

• The method of cervix intraepithelial neoplasia treatment;

• The method of treatment of uterine cervix cancer and cancer of uterine corpus;

• The device for magnetic therapy in gynecology;

• The method of puerperal endometritis prophylaxis;

• The method of fetus hypoxia diagnosis in labors;

• The device for collecting blood from uterine cervix;

• The method of diagnosis of pathological states of uterine tubes;

• Cryoapplicator for the purposeful cryotherapy of pathological processes of uterine cervix.

Teachers of the department take an active part in congresses, conferences, symposia devoted to the problems of obstetrics and gynecology.

For the last 10 years 110 scientific works, 6 monographs have been published, 17 inventions have been made out; 23 reports at international scientific fora have been made.

Clinical work:

Teachers of the department are doctors of high qualification who perform complex operations, master modern methods of diagnosis and treatment in obstetrics and gynecology, introduce these methods through their pupils in all regions of Ukraine.

Clinical bases of the department are Kiev maternity homes №4, №2, Kiev City Oncological Center, Clinic "ISIDA".

Collaborators of the department perform consultations of patients in women’s consultation of maternity home №4 (address: 16, Geroev Stalingrada str.), and also all kinds of gynecologic operations.

International Activities:

Teachers of the department also carry out training of interns, clinical residents, both from Ukraine, and from other countries, such as Lebanon, Turkey, Congo, Mongolia, Ecuador, Syria, India.
